Here are some of the nurseries I know keep Citrus. Most will supply by mail order.
I don't yet know of many in the North of the UK - sorry! |
UK. Many Garden Centres will stock a few of the more common varieties. Chessington
- next to the Surrey theme park - specialises in citrus and always has a large
selection. Also has some old, full-size potted citrus trees on display. |
UK. The Royal Horticultural Society's plant shop at Wisley, Surrey usually has a
good selection - often supplied by The Citrus Centre. I am told that the RHS Harlow
Carr Gardens in Harrogate, Yorkshire also stocks some varieties. |
UK. Excellent! The owners of this nursery in Sussex did what I haven't dared to do
- they gave up their old jobs and started growing Citrus commercially. Huge range.
Very helpful - they even run training courses on citrus budding. |
UK. Norfolk. Holder of the National Collection of Citrus. They took over many
of the plants from the famous 'Rivers Nursery' when it closed down. Recently improved and expanded selection. |
UK. Dorset. New web-site. Good selection of mainly imported Spanish varieties.
Also supplies special citrus fertilizer for pot-grown plants. |
Italian-speaking Switzerland. Beautiful lake-side nursery and gardens with many unusual
varieties. Well worth a visit during your holidays! Web-site in Italian.
Huge selection of citrus varieties. |
Near Hamburg in northern Germany. Clearly run by an enthusiast for hardy citrus.
Very interesting web-site. Huge selection of varieties. |
Northern NSW, Australia. This nursery is run by Erika Birmingham, a specialist in
Australian native citrus. However, she will not export plants or seeds outside
Australia, and appears to discourage foreign interest. |
EU Plant Regulations permit the import and export of citrus plants between member
countries. When obtained from a commercial nursery they should be accompanied
by a 'plant passport'. Import and export of citrus plants between EU and USA is
prohibited. There are restrictions on the movement of citrus plants between certain US states.
Always check locally before ordering. |

California, USA. Supply varieties on dwarfing rootstocks. I imported plants from
this supplier many years ago when regulations allowed. Now they only ship within
the USA. |
Corsica. Web-site mainly in French. Supplies seeds, grafting kits and budwood, as
well as plants. |
Texas, USA. When last checked had around forty varieties of potted citrus. |

UK. Not far from Redruth in Cornwall, Burncoose usually stocks around half a dozen
types of citrus. Good woodland gardens. |
UK. Kent. A nursery which has on-line ordering of about twenty different varieties.
Some very large and very expensive! No personal knowledge of this nursery, but
I will try and visit one day. |
France. Has about 150 varieties available for sale. No web-site, but click the button
for contact details. Following several recommendations for it,
I visited this nursery in April 2006. See Pépinières Bachès |
Another USA nursery - and will ship worldwide to countries that permit citrus
imports. Web-site has a particularly good selection of the hardier citrus varieties
and hybrids. |
Northern NSW, Australia. Excellent selection of citrus, and usually some of the native
varieties. No plant export possible. |
For permitted USA states, and foreign countries allowed to receive budwood from Florida,
the CITRUS BUDWOOD REGISTRATION BUREAU distributes clean budwood of many
varieties for propagation. |
